2015-08-28 Great Smokey Mountains National Park

These mountains are the pride and joy of America and holds the secrets of the Cherokee Nation and their ancestors. It is where the U.S. Government screwed the Indians out of their land and tried to relocate all of them to lands in Oklahoma. "The Trail of Tears" documented the forced march that resulted in the loss of hundreds due to freezing and starvation and when they got to Oklahoma they had little land available. What little there was could not be farmed. Since the Cherokee couldn't read or write, the government forced them to sign the documents and took advantage of them in every way possible. President Jackson and a few others lying  at every turn of the road and refusing to honor the real treaties. One can just shake their head at the way they were treated.

                                                              Grist Mill

One of the very few still operable and is used to grind corn and on occasion-wheat. it was restored to it's original condition.

                                                    Clingman's Dome.

The highest elevation of the Smokey Mountains. We didn't go out to the elevated dome (viewing area. It was a bit too steep and there were no handicap means(carts) available to get there. maybe next time.

A tribute to the CCC Camps of the Roosevelt Days. there were 22 CCC Camps in the park and they were the work force that
made the roads and drainage systems still in use today.

Location of all the camps.
