2015-07-11  Gambo and Dover

                                                          Gambo

We drove to Gambo and found an RV park for the night. It was a quite rural one that was situated in the forest. OH, thought we were in Alaska again: narrow road like a path, trees close to path making it difficult to maneuver, and small parking spots, hard to get into and definitely no services. Didn’t need or want any, just a boondock (dry) spot. At any rate it was private except for the fishermen heading to the stream to try their luck at Salmon or whatever. No Moose visited during the night.

                                                                Dover

Next morning we drove to Dover. It is a town that has a Fault Line where two ancient tectonic plates are located. Part of the boundary line can be seen from Dover Hill.

The hill also has part of the remains of an aircraft crash that occurred on January 2, 1942. An R.C.A.F.   B-18 Bomber departed from Gander airport on a convoy patrol  mission when one engine feathered and froze. They jettisoned their bombs over Saltwater Pond (lake) and made an emergency landing in the water near Locker’s Bay, near Dover. All six survived and were rescued and brought to the town.A plane from Gander was sent to return the crew. Nathan Parson’s wife Mary fed them Moose Soup and cleaned their uniforms and pressed them. When the plane landed their commanding officer came with the plane. He wouldn’t leave until after he had eaten two bowls of Mary’s soup. True story.
