Leaving Soldotna, we
sent a package off to my sister in Norfolk and it should be there Thursday or Friday.
I hope she likes it.
The day is another
gorgeous one. Clear skies, warm (65) and a gentle wind. The mountains and the
volcanoes are in plain sight, hardly any humidity (probably 0). Don’t know, but
it’s just wonderful.
We took the first
available camp ground on the Homer Spit. It’s a bit out from all the crowd and
business places, but it’s quiet, very peaceful, overlooks Cook Inlet, and the
mountains, volcanoes and glaciers are in plain sight. You have to be here and
see it to really believe it. It becomes clearer each day why the Alaskans love this state state.

We’ll add photos that
are pretty well self explanatory.
We stopped at the
Harbor Grill for fish & chips and had a side appetizer of Ceviche, which
was Haddock marinated in citric juice (lime usually). It’s a favorite in
Mexico, the Caribbean and South America. The fish and chips were also Haddock
deep fried. Not bad but we’ve had better. The coffee was absolutely horrible-tasted
like yesterdays, reheated. It was obvious this place was just another “tourist”
trap, i.e. serve them anything, they won’t come back anyway, they’re just
another tourist”, and you know what, they’re right. With that type of
service, we won’t and we’ll tell everyone we talk to about them.
We drove around just
enjoying the day and the superb scenery, taking pictures of the glaciers and
later decided we wanted pizza, so we stopped in at a place called Don
Joes’s Restaurant and Cantina “Mexican and Pizza”. Odd way to list your
name. Anyway, we ordered another “Chef’s Mistake” like the one we had in
Soldotna at Bub’s . It was delicious and I would hate to have to decide between
the two for first place.

Our waitress,
Sarah Concia, was a delightful and cheerful gal who seemed to really enjoy
being our (and others) waitress. She checked back frequently and was prompt
with the service, including having to prompt the kitchen about our order. Don Jose,’ you have a “keeper”, so hang on to her.
