Post # 47-Fairbanks-- Eileson USAF Base --Salmon Bake

Friday June 6, 2014

We started the day going to the base Family Services Office to see what they had to offer in terms of military discount tickets for various event around town and in Anchorage and Valdez. They couldn't offer anything that we could already get from senior and retired military discounts. So, we stopped by the base visitor area to take photos of the aircraft on display and read the plaques. Some were interesting and oddly enough the F-4 on display had Aim-9 Sidewinder Launchers installed. The launchers had a fin/canard stabilizer  modification installed that I invented  at NATC  Patuxent River, MD while working the missile canard  flutter problem that was causing the Guidance Control Group (GCG) to break off during flight, Who would have thought.

We drove to Pioneer Park to have dinner at the "Salmon Bake", a restaurant with most of the tables outside on the lawn and in the trees. the food was served buffet style from steam tables set p outside. One table was the salad bar, one served king crab legs, another served baked salmon, deep fried Cod and Halibut and Prime Rib. Being buffet style, it wa an "all you can eat" meal. Boy!, did we ever stuff ourselves. The food was delicious and the salmon had a honey based (tasted like) marinade brushed on. But,  but we had to admit that my salmon with Cajun  seasoning taste better. Guess we're just spoiled by my recipe
