2016-03-13 William Ricketts Aboriginie Sanctuary, Olinda, Australia

Olinda is a beautiful small village North of Cranbourne and Melbourne in the Dandenong Mountains. We just love the area and the small shops and restaurants located there. We  plan to go back later and we'll post photos then.We did have dinner at the Pig & Whistle Restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed  an ample serving of Pig Rump Roast with chips (french fries--huge ones) and veggies.

Just outside of the village , William Ricketts built a sanctuary immortalizing his relationship with the Aborigine people. Being sensitive to their ways and customs as well as their understanding of the Earth, he felt that he was one of them. In a way, he was like the flower children of the sixties and seventies and never grew out of it. Yet, he was an avid artist who used all the different Aborigines as well as himself and his mother as models for his sculptures. Below are samples of his work.
