2015-07-05 Petty Harbour, NL

On our return trip from Cape Spear to St John’s we visited a small fishing village,

Petty Harbour and the Mini Aquarium located there..  We were guided by Karleena, who gave us so much information on the sea life there and she also told us about the village and the fishing industry and how they
prepared their Cod for shipment.

       Karleena

I'm including all the photos we took of the town and the sea life.

Karleena, our guide, was very informative and patient with our many questions.

The starfish to the left was lifted off a mussell.  The protrusion in the middle is the stomach!

Amazing how many houses have a lighthouse in the front yard.

As we were driving through the hills back to St. John’s, we saw an interesting  pipeline, apparently a fresh water pipeline that ran from a lake above the town, through part of the town and then up the side of the mountain into a huge storage tank.. Part of the line was made of wood and we assumed it was some of the original, as it was quite old and had many leaks.  The remainder was a large metal pipe.  Apparently the pipeline was built to provide fresh water to the village and to control the overflow of the lake.

The wood pipeline meets the metal.
The dam where the pipeline begins
The lake that feeds the pipeline.
